The SIA recognises that one of the most important aspects for personnel that are involved in the private security sector is Training and more Training. Before the industry was regulated it was prone to attract perhaps the wrong type of personnel and the industry lacked a standard of training, supervision to weed out the roguish elements and to set standards of professionalism that was badly needed. The SIA held extensive talks with the security service providers, customers etc etc continue with page
The SIA held extensive talks with the security service providers, customers, training companies, trade associations, awarding bodies, local government and the police to achieve a broad agreement which transcended all levels and culminated in the development of training and qualifications which would be licensed to suitable personnel.
The primary goal of the training development programme is to raise the standards and performance of both the security personnel and the companies providing the services to industry and the retail sector. A degree of professionalism was required and the SIA set about the task of ensuring that all companies supplying security personnel firstly ensured that candidates were suitable for the duties and to instigate a professional standard across the industry and to forge a level which was the same in its principals in Devon as well as John O’Groats and London.
The SIA set the standards for all security personnel involved in the security industry to undergo a structured training programme and education which led to an obligatory licensing certification so as to ensure they would be more effective in their duties. This would lead to a culture of on-going education within the industry and to promote a level of skills and training that would help engender an increasing professionalism
The SIA and Industry providers recognised that the individuals engaged in these sectors which involved enforcement responsibilities must have a broad range of skills and a very clear comprehension of their duties and performance roles to perform and limits to maintain.
The SIA is committed to continually improve the standards within the private security sector and to carry out enforcement action if necessary against poor performing companies and to motivate those companies who excel in their duties and to continually look to improve the standards of training and qualifications.
